Corns

What is it?

Similar to calluses, corns are a buildup of hard, thick skin. The difference is that corns have a hard core that is shaped like a kernel of corn which makes if painful.

What is the Cause?

Corns develop due to excessive pressure on specific points on your feet. The thick, hard skin that makes up the corn can be very painful.

Recommended Treatment

Ensuring your footwear fits properly can help prevent corns, although some people are genetically predisposed to getting corns. A Chiropodist can carefully remove the skin surrounding the corn and eventually the painful core. To prevent future corns, a custom orthotic can help properly distribute pressure over the entire foot. Modifications can be made to the orthotic to off-load pressure from the areas with the corns
